Preet Spills the Tea: Best Bali Resorts by Occasion
Fresh off the plane and still glowing from a week of spa bliss, beachfront sunsets and Balinese bites, My Bali Expert Preet has just returned from paradise. We sat down with her to get the inside scoop on the best Bali resorts — whether you’re chasing romance, travelling with the kids or just need somewhere to unwind. Here’s what she had to say:
Which resort would you recommend for a romantic getaway, and what makes it perfect for couples?
“The Anvaya Beach Resort — hands down! It’s the kind of place where romance practically floats in the air. You’ve got direct beach access for those dreamy sunset strolls, beachfront dining for two and the couples treatments at Sakanti Spa are next-level. Even though it’s family-friendly, there are adults-only zones and it was so peaceful we barely noticed any kids! It’s luxurious, warm and pure Balinese charm.”
Which resort is best suited for families with children, and why?
“Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Bali has it all — and then some! Their Family Paradise wing is like a mini world for kids. Some rooms have bunk beds and even child-sized toilets and sinks (so cute!). There’s a mini waterpark, indoor kids club with rock climbing, e-lounge, cultural activities, mini-golf — you name it. Honestly, the kids would never want to leave.”
Did any properties have standout kids’ clubs, activities or family-friendly dining options?
“Nothing beats the kids’ club at Grand Mirage — it’s a total wonderland. But Ayodya Resort Bali comes close with its splash pad, family pool and even bunnies in the kids club! Novotel Bali Benoa also impressed me with kids cooking classes, kite making, mini Olympics and more. There’s a lot for the little ones to love across Bali!”
Are there any resorts that stand out for having party vibes, great bars or group villas?
“Mamaka by Ovolo brings the energy! It’s all beachy vibes and built for 20- to 50-year-olds who love a good time. Their rooftop bar with beach views and live DJs is the perfect spot to dance the night away. Plus, they’ve got a rooftop pool, movie nights and are close to everything. Bali Mandira is another party favourite — Azul Beach Club has live music, sax players, DJs and cocktail specials in the evenings.”
Which resort had the best spa or wellness program? What set it apart from the others?
“The Westin Resort Nusa Dua takes wellness seriously. They’ve got their ‘Six Pillars of Wellbeing’ — think beachfront yoga, a massive gym, Heavenly Spa treatments, lavender balm by the bed and even a nutritious buffet breakfast with DIY juice stations. It’s a holistic, feel-good stay from the inside out.”
Which resort was a foodie’s dream, and what dishes or restaurants wowed you?
“Novotel Bali Benoa is foodie heaven! Their Cocoas Restaurant serves up everything — steak, pizza, Balinese curries, Indian dishes…the list goes on. Their themed buffet nights are a must, and the tiramisu? To die for! There’s also an ice cream pavilion if you’ve got a sweet tooth.”
Did any resorts offer cooking classes, markets or unique dining settings?
“Yes! The Trans Resort offers a fantastic half-day cooking class that includes a visit to the local market before preparing your Balinese feast. Hotel Indigo also offers cooking classes and the settings are beautiful. You’re not just learning to cook, you’re immersed in local flavours and stories.”
Which resort had the most stunning views or beach access?
“Most of the Nusa Dua properties have amazing beach access. Resorts like Sofitel, Sol by Melia, Ayodya — you can step out of your room and straight onto the sand. There’s even a beachfront path connecting the resorts, so sunset walks are a dream.”
Which resort screamed luxury (and was it worth the splurge)?
“The Mulia Nusa Dua. It’s a showstopper from the moment you walk through the lobby. Luxe interiors, ocean views, dreamy cloud-like beds and don’t even get me started on the buffet breakfast — there’s a whole dessert room! It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like royalty.”
What was the best value-for-money resort you visited? How so?
“Away Bali Legian Camakila is such a gem. You’re in the heart of Legian, right near all the shops, restaurants and bars — and the beach is literally right there. With two pools (including one with sunset views), a spa and so much on your doorstep, it’s unbeatable value.”
Which resort surprised you the most — and why?
“Hotel Indigo! From the street, you’d never guess how huge and lush it is inside. It’s almost rainforest-like. The design is so thoughtful — even the mismatched chairs in the lobby tell a story. The rooms come with a juicer and fresh fruit daily, and the vibe is peaceful yet playful. Plus, it’s just across from the beach and offers surfing lessons and cooking classes too.”
If you could only return to one of these resorts, which would it be — and why?
“Merusaka Nusa Dua is in my top three for sure. The rooms are spacious and beautifully styled, and the all-inclusive package is super generous — you can dine at four different restaurants! The view from the main spa area out to the beach is stunning, and the whole property just feels so calm and luxurious.”
