The warm and green environment makes Bali an inviting destination for golfers. Over recent years Bali has developed as a premier golfing destination, with several new courses opening and a number of the existing courses undergoing a redesign to improve the overall standard of golf available.
Best courses to play in Bali
Bali offers many great golfing options to suit all skill levels. There are many family friendly and casual options, but for those travellers who are looking for a well-designed and maintained course, there are 4 courses in Bali that deserve your attention.
Bali National Golf Club can be found in Nusa Dua, close to many of Bali’s quality hotels and resorts. Since it had a complete overhaul in 2014, the course is now considered by many as the flagship course in Bali. Ocean views over the beautiful local beaches makes for a wonderful setting for this golfing experience. New Kuta Golf Club offers a championship standard course located at Pecatu on the south-west rim of the Bukit peninsula. It has won a number of domestic and international awards for the course design and is a popular choice for many Bali golfers.
Bali Handara Golf and Country Club is one of the oldest and most established courses in Bali, having received numerous awards over the years for the quality of its course. It is located in Singaraja, which is a more secluded area in Northern Bali approximately 2-hours’ drive from the international airport. The club sits at a higher altitude than most of Bali, so it offers milder temperatures and generally the dry season is longer. The course is surrounded by beautiful natural forest which provides a serene backdrop for your round.
Bukit Pandawa Golf and Country Club can be found in Ungasan (in south-eastern Bali) and was opened in October 2016. It is a par 3 course that boasts a beautiful and dramatic design, increasing the difficulty expected in a par 3 course. The course overlooks the surf breaks along the magnificent southern Bukit Peninsula. The Nirwana Bali Golf Club has been a Bali golfing stalwart for many years. It is renowned for its spectacular ocean views and has always been one of the top courses in Bali, but is currently closed until further notice.
Best time of year to golf in Bali
Bali sits just below the equator and the weather is divided typically into 2 seasons, the wet season, which runs from October to April and the dry season, which runs from May to September. Although Bali provides fantastic golfing year-round, your experience will be best through the dry season. Not only will you be guaranteed better playing conditions, but the courses are easier to maintain through these months and often present a superior playing surface.
Finding time for a round
For those enjoying a stay at Kuta or Seminyak, you will need to allow at least 30-minutes travel time to get to any of the popular courses, but you will find that New Kuta is the closest course. Bali National and Bukit Pandawa are both within close driving distance from the resort area of Nusa Dua. Most of these courses will require pre-bookings so make sure you factor this into your travel plans.
